Kosher Movies: A Film Critic Discovers Life Lessons at the Cinema by Herbert J. Cohen

You wouldn’t expect an Orthodox rabbi to be a lover of modern cinema, but Rabbi Herbert J. Cohen has been a fan of movies for as long as he can remember. Indeed, he believes movies offer a unique insight into the human condition. From “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” to “Mrs. Doubtfire” to the Batman trilogy, Rabbi Cohen finds lessons in all of them.

He started a blog called Kosher Movies a few years ago and now has close to 200 reviews there. Now comes the release of his book “Kosher Movies” published by Urim Publications.

Cohen presents films as tools for self-discovery and for navigating the challenges of life. What do romantic comedies really say about love? What can Tom Hanks and “Castaway” teach us about the value of time? What parenting lessons can we learn from “Dead Poets Society”? Exploring 120 stand-out movies from the past 30 years, Cohen shares inspiring personal anecdotes about self-growth, relationships, parenting, aging, dealing with adversity, and more.
