Moroccan Sephardic Romancero Wins European Prize for Folklore

Susana Weich-Shahak, has just won the European Prize for Folklore for her work on the Moroccan Sephardic Romancero, published 2013. This is an anthology of Judeo-Spanish ballads from the Spanish romancero tradition that have been preserved in the various countries of the Moroccan Jewish Diaspora. These are ballads sung primarily by women, highlighting important life cycle events.
